Have you ever had to modify code that you didn't write? If so, you may be familiar with the process of patching.
This is a beginner-level session that will cover the basics: what a patch is, how to apply a patch to your project using composer, and how to write and contribute a patch back to the community.
Topics we will discuss further:
- What is a patch anyways?
- When is a patch appropriate?
- How to read and understand a patch.
- How to use composer to apply your patch automatically.
- How to name your patch file according to drupal standards.
- How to generate a patch with git.
- How to submit your patch to a contrib module.
Community contributions are the heart and soul of Drupal. Patches give you the chance to actively participate in contributing back to the community.
